Queensland Funding Options

Designer Life is a Skills Assure Supplier to the Queensland Government and offers funding under a range of programs for many of our qualifications.

If you meet the eligibility criteria for your chosen funding program, a portion of your course fees could be covered by government funding.

Career Start

Career Start gives job seekers access to reduced cost training that industries need and provides support to achieve positive student outcomes, delivering training where it is needed across Queensland.

There are two pathways available under the Career Start program:

General Training
Traineeships

General Training Pathway

This pathway includes qualifications delivered through a general training pathway which are available for direct enrolment and do not require the student to enter into a training contract (apprenticeship/traineeship) with an employer.

Who is eligible for the program?

To be eligible you must:

Not be currently enrolled in another qualification, this includes any courses that you have on hold or have deferred (Does not including foundation skills qualifications)
Not already hold a certificate III or higher-level qualification that was completed in the last 10 years (Does not include qualifications completed while you were a school student and foundation skills qualifications)
Be 15 years of age or older
Not be a school student
Permanently live in Queensland
Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

Traineeship Training Pathway

To access this training pathway you must be employed as a trainee. This pathway is part of the Australian Apprenticeships system and requires all parties to sign an Traineeship Training Contract (the Contract) as defined by the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (the Act).

Who is eligible for the program?

To be eligible you must:

have entered into a Contract (training contract) for a qualification that is funded by DTET and be registered on DTET’s training database;
if you are from overseas, you must have a visa allowing you to work in Australia; and
have not have already completed two apprenticeship/traineeship qualifications (including SATs) within the last 10 years.
not be enrolled in another qualification, including other traineeships or apprenticeships

Additional Information (Applies to both the General Training Pathway and Traineeship Pathway)

Career Start supports delivery of entry level training to students, apprentices and trainees aligned with the skill outcomes required by industry. The program offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

Under Career Start, an individual may access up to two subsidised training places through one of the following options:

a general qualification at certificate III and an apprenticeship/traineeship, noting that if the apprenticeship/ traineeship is done first, the individual is no longer eligible to access a general qualification under Career Start; or
two apprenticeships/traineeships at either certificate II or III, including school based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs).

In addition, under Career Start, you may access one subsidised introductory-level skill set.

You cannot do two general pathway qualifications under Career Start.

You can only receive funding for a maximum of one (1) school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

Please note student eligibility requirements may changed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training at any time.

Participants undertaking some Qualifications are required to undertake mandatory vocational placement in order to be issued with a certificate. The duration of the vocational placement will depend on your specific course requirements.

The Department of Trade, Employment and Training may ask you to complete Queensland Government surveys on your training goals, experience and outcomes.

Career Boost

Career Boost will give existing workers access to reduced-cost higher level training to develop the skills needed to take their careers to the next level.

Who is eligible for the program?

To be eligible you must:

Not be currently enrolled in another qualification, this includes any courses that you have on hold or have deferred (Does not including foundation skills qualifications)
Not already hold a certificate IV or higher-level qualification that was completed in the last 10 years (Does not include qualifications completed while you were a school student and foundation skills qualifications)
Be 15 years of age or older
Not be a school student
Permanently live in Queensland
Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency

Courses offered under this funding program have additional eligibility requirements for students to be currently employed in specific industries and/or undertaking specific duties. You will be required to supply evidence to support your enrolment. Please contact our team for more information about the specific requirements for your chosen course.

Additional Information

Career Boost offers either a general training pathway or employment-based apprenticeship or traineeship pathway.

Under Career Boost, an eligible individual may access:

one subsidised training place in either a certificate IV, diploma, or advanced diploma qualification under the general training pathway; OR
a higher level apprenticeship/traineeship at certificate IV or above; and
up to two subsidised skill sets in priority industries or sectors as part of the program.

If you have already accessed two apprenticeships/traineeships through a school based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) or Career Start within the last 10 years, you are not eligible to undertake an apprenticeship/traineeship under Career Boost.

You cannot do two general pathway qualifications under Career Boost.
